For its theory and methods, the field is based on disciplines ranging from ancient history, historical criticism, philology, textual criticism, literary criticism, historical background, mythology and comparative religion.

A character study is the study of a person (or place) in Scripture. These types of studies can be of great benefit when you want to know the heart, attitude and personality of an individual or the importance of a particular place.
